Art at Home
Ideas for Home Art Making!
There are so many things you can do at home with just a pencil and paper! Some ideas include:
Get outside and draw from nature
(find things with different textures, observe & draw what you see)
Textures!
Textures can be found all around us. Search your home to find things that are SOFT, BUMBY, SLIPPERY, SMOOTH, or ROUGH. Draw a picture of the items you found. What types of lines can you use to show the objects texture?
Design your dream treehouse! Add as many details as you can think of. Start with pencil and then add color if you are able.
Draw to music. Play your favorite song and draw while listening. See what it inspires you to create!
Set up a still life in your home using your favorite stuffed animal! (We've talked about "still life" in the art room - drawing something that doesn't move from different view points)
Set a 1 minute timer and draw as many things as you can from the room you are in (or outside)
Draw a doodle for someone else and have your partner turn it into something new!
Keep a daily sketchbook and draw something about your day.
Create your own coloring page or "look & find" for a sibling
Students in Grades 2-5 have been introduced to the art technique of Zentangle in my room. Draw any shape and fill it in with a variety of patterns and repeated doodles. There are many online resources for the art of Zentangle.
Kindness Rocks! Find a rock outside and paint a positive picture or message on it to keep spirits high!
Take advantage of the warmer weather and create with found objects - either from nature or your own recycling bin!
Creating cards for friends and family is always a great idea to share your creative energy with others!
Try a reverse coloring page! If you have watercolor paints at home, paint beautiful colors all over your paper. When it dries, use a pencil or pen to add in the lines of your drawing on top!

Practice Mindfulness Through Art
Praticing mindfulness together with your child can reduce stress, improve attention & help regulate our moods and emotions. Try out one of these activities to reset & recharge:
Doodling - Free draw & doodling offers children a way to take a break
Painting - Try taping your paper to the wall to work while standing
Observation - Get outside, walk & simply observe your surroundings!
Coloring - This is a great way to clear your mind and refocus.
